Narrative Language and the Representations of Alienation in Najwa Ben Shatwan's Novels
Hana Khalid Rasul, Sami Naji Swadi
This study, entitled "Narrative Language and the Load of Alienation in the Novels of Najwa Bin Shatwan," examines the mechanisms of language's operation. Three types of linguistic employment have been discussed, preceded by an introduction to the importance of language in narrative construction, such as: the woman's voice, the beginnings of woman's entry into the world of writing, and how woman acquired a voice to express herself. The women's attitude toward alienation, the injustice, and deprivation are divided into two attitudes: an attitude of submission and compliance to alienation, and a rejection and resistance to what they are subjected to. The second type was devoted to satirical language in which the novels were able to combine sarcasm that invokes humor with the feelings of sadness and suffering of the alienated character, in addition to the focus of the small details in the contemporary Arab novel. Specifically, the postmodern novels elaborate on narrating events and describing people and places. The third type of narrative employment and work through language focused on the poetic dimension carried by vocabulary and structures. How is the poetic lexicon distinguished in the novels that are the sample of the study, besides mentioning some texts that represent alienation and came in the popular Libyan dialect, in addition to the beauty of the structures.
Volume 12 · Issue 5 · October 2025Narrative montage in Youssef Ziedan's short story collection ‘Hal u Tirhal’
Hawr Ismael Mustafa
This research paper aims to investigate the art of (narrative montage in Youssef Ziedan’s short stories Hal u Tirhal). The writer obviously employs those techniques in his short stories through vigorous use of visual, technical methods, borrowed from drama and theatre montaging techniques, in parallel with narration principles. Youssef Ziedan was well acquainted with the artistic forms popular at the time of his literary career and he was successful in using cinematic arts, in particular montage. This reflects a high level of literary awareness as research shows he strongly believed that a writer’s job is not merely to write and narrate events, but a writer is an artist who produces art, like artists across other fields. Thus, narration, a part from linguistic and literary meanings, is a system of moving images which have previously been formed in the writer’s imagination and require specific tools and hard work to be transferred to the receiver the way they are in the writer’s imagination. This visual texture which comprises editing, cutting, removing, forwarding, mixing, and other montaging functions entails an in-depth analysis and a detailed description to be discovered by a researcher. Therefore, a descriptive, analytical method is the best means to achieve this goal. The paper has found out that Youssef Ziedan has used various chronological orders in the Hal wa Tirhal stories; some stories use a linear structure, whereas others follow a more complicated, non-linear narration. Apart from that, he has used montaging techniques such as acceleration, slowing down, mixing, fading, rapid transformation from one scene to another, visual and auditory effects, and flashback. This has given the author a unique writing style.

Mustafa Saleh Mustafa
The research entitled (Mechanisms of Time Transition in the Narrative of the Collection of Stories (“Khawnnamay Dada Sozi” by Karwan Kaka Soor), is an attempt to introduce and show the effect of time transition in developing the structure of the narrative text. The study examines how the use of mechanisms to accelerate and slow down narrative time contributes to this effect. A narrator can alter the time of the narrated text according to their own intentions and needs, creating a distinction between narrative time and story time. This demonstrates the narrator's ability and talent within the narrative. The research consists of an introduction and two parts. In the introduction, along with introducing time as an element of narrative, the importance of time and its manifestations in the narrative text are discussed. Additionally, the difference between narrative time and story time is clarified. In the first part of the study, the mechanisms for slowing down the narrative time (such as: description, scene, and comment) and their roles in slowing down the narrative time are discussed. In the second part, the mechanisms for accelerating the narrative time are discussed, which include the mechanisms of (removal and shortening). Examples in the stories are provided to illustrate the role of each mechanism. Finally, the results and conclusions are provided.
Volume 11 · Issue 1 · February 2024Recording the Sunnah and the orientalists' suspicions about it - a critical study
Jawdat Anwer Majeed, Othman Muhammad Gareeb
Suspicions regarding the Prophet’s Sunnah and its codification are numerous, including those of the Orientalists. Considering that the Prophet’s Sunnah is the second source of Islamic legislation, it is necessary to respond and eliminate any suspicion raised so as to prevent the realization of those malicious aspirations. From this viewpoint, I provide an overview of Orientalism at the beginning of my paper, delving into the reason for their interest in creating suspicions about the Sunnah and its codification. I have devoted the first chapter to discuss the stages of codifying the Prophet's Sunnah, by clarifying it in three stage, as the codification of the Prophet's Sunnah passed through three stages, namely: the stage of codification during the Prophet's era, then the codification during the era of the Companions, and then the codification during the era of the followers Also known as Al-Tabeen. In the second chapter, I define suspicion and the term Orientalism linguistically and as an idiomatic concept, then I mention a group of suspicions raised by the Orientalists and address them. Finally, the paper concludes, through this modest research, the importance of responding to the suspicions of the Orientalists about the codification of the Prophet's Sunnah, and that silence and failure to respond to their suspicions increases the gravity of these suspicions, especially in this age, where there is great exposition, many views, and abundant suspicions raised about Islam as a religion, and about the Sunnah and The Prophet as a reliable source in this true religion.

Sara Zaid Mahmood, Latif Muhammad Hasan
This research was written under the title (The Discourse and its References in Maha Hassan's Novels - Selected Models). It aims at clarifying the concept of discourse and its references in the works of the Syrian-Kurdish novelist (Maha Hassan). This topic has been chosen due to the fact the previous studies have not tackled the mechanism of discourse formation and its references in the work of this novelist, and her vision of the world that she conveyed to us through narrative discourse techniques, including: the narrator and his/her listener, which are studied in this research. The importance of the research lies in addressing topics relating to Man and our Modern Age including: migration, women, identity, sense of belonging, center and margin, and others. In this study, the researcher draws on the (formative structuralist) approach, which links literature to the product and society, and shows the dialectical relationship between narrative discourse and society. It also focuses on the relationship of the artistic structure of the literary work with reality and social awareness because the novel as a literary work, particularly that of Maha Hasan’s, is closely related to society and its transformations. In conclusion, the researcher arrived at several results, including: there is a clear difference in the experiences of (Maha Hassan) as a novelist in Syria and in France. Migration provided her with a suitable atmosphere to reveal her Kurdish identity, and it also provided her with the freedom to express her vision to the public, and to express her feminist bias.

Volume 7 · Issue 2 · April 2020The structure of Asfar-e-Kateban of Abu-torab Khosravi
Arkan Abdullah Mahmood, Najmuldeen Roostam Younus
Abu-torab Khosravi has obtained a special place among the third generation of Iranian fiction writers through writing a collection of stories under the title of Havieh and Divan-e-Soomanat and two novels titled Asfar-e-Kateban and Rood-e-Ravi. Despite his precision and attempt at processing a coherence among language, narration and themes, his stories have been, to some extent, neglected due to the narrative complexities and technical nicety in his works. His novel, Asfar-e-Kateban, can be an appropriate selection for explaining the artistry and value of Abu-torab Khosravi. Thus, this novel will be analyzed in terms of structuralism. This novel consists of 12 sequences which contain another three narratives; the proposed subjects and thoughts correspond with its deep-structure, that is to say, the subversion of time.
