Intertextuality of Wisdom and Proverbs in the Novel The Historian… Tablets Escaped from Death by Fadel Omar

Ramazan Haje Kader, Mardan Rafat Abozaid

The influence of the literature of nations on one another has led to a new understanding of literary works, known as intertextuality. This term emerged as a new critical concept introduced by Julia Kristeva, referring to the overlap, adoption, and incorporation of one text into a preceding one — in other words, a text that benefits from the ideas and views of a prior text, utilizing them through various techniques, mechanisms, and types of intertextuality. This study, titled “Intertextuality of Wisdom and Proverbs in the Novel The Historian… Tablets Escaped from Death by Fadel Omar”, explores, through different types of intertextuality, a number of proverbs and wise sayings that found their place in the novel and were used by the novelist to enrich the text, enhance the eloquence of the language, and convey deeper meanings. The study discusses the methods of employing proverbs, whether directly or indirectly. Ultimately, it becomes clear that these sayings added strength and enjoyment to the novel, allowing the reader to engage with it calmly and enthusiastically. Consequently, expanding the novel's contents allows the author to illuminate the events by incorporating a greater number of proverbs into their narratives.
