Selection of the most Suitable Site for Dam Construction in Pishdar (AHP). District Using the Analytical Pyramid Process (AHP)

Mohammed Qadir Rasul, Azadin Juma Darwish

This study paper looks into the assessment of dam construction and the spatial distribution of suggested dams in the Pishdar District through using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). Geographically speaking, Pishdar district is located in the eastern part of the Kurdistan Region and the northeastern part of Sulaymaniyah Province. However, the district extends between latitudes 36° 32′ 0″–36° 06′ 0″ N and longitudes 45° 20′ 0″–44° 54′ 0″ E, with a total area of 1,331.4 km². As a matter of fact, due to the population growth, the need for water has been increasing significantly, and on the other hand climate including rising temperatures, irregular rainfall, and frequent droughts, groundwater levels are dropping, seasonal rivers and canals are shrinking and drying up along with the Iran’s policies on governing the groundwater in the region have further made the situation worse. Most importantly, these factors highlight the necessity of this research. The objectives of this study paper are to determine suitable locations for dam construction, as well as to assess the characteristics and water storage capacities of the proposed dams and estimate the potential water inflow. At the end of our research paper, we reached a number of findings, the most important finding is that both natural and human factors in the region are favorable for dam construction. According to the AHP model, six locations were identified as the most suitable sites for dams. Their suitability levels were classified as very suitable, suitable, somewhat suitable, or less suitable. Importantly, no site was categorized as completely unsuitable for dam construction.

Geographical Analysis for Temperature Level Changes in Pshdar District During 1993 To 2023

Naz Hussein Haji, Luqman Wsu Omer

Knowing and determining the level and the amount of temperature change and the mass of air is an important issue. It can be used to know the amount and the direction of temperature averages, because it has a big impact on the other atmosphere components. Although comprehending the amount and the direction of these temperature levels can be unclear according to the human senses and physiology, but when we do the analysis of these data according to a specific period of time for average temperatures using tables and graphics,we may get more precise results. In this research, which is done in Pishdar district, we relied on metrological stations like (Dukan and Sardasht) for a period of 31 years. In order to get accurate results, we used the quantity analyzing method for analyzing monthly, seasonal and yearly data. The Theoretical framework method for describing important factors affecting the climate change This research shows that the direction of temperature changes is important for temperature levels, with an increase of 3°C over the period of this study in the stations, which is higher than the global average temperature change of the same time.Among the analysed directions, the highest monthly and seasonal temperature change happened in winter, specially in February, with an increase of 4.4°C in Sardasht station. The lowest increase was seen in autumn, specifically in October, with a rise of only 2°C in Dukan station.

Geographical analysis of the impact of road networks on traffic accidents in Pishdar District

Roshna Muhammad Ahmed, Pishtiwan Shafiq Ahmad, Taha Ahmad Karim, Yadgar Mustafa Ibrahim

An increase in the population and its needs, the development of transportation means and the diversification of transportation networks, as well as the differences in the geographical location of the population, are reasons for paying more attention to the road and transportation sector. In addition to all this, the increase in traffic accidents at the local and global levels is another reason for the attention of different fields. Pishdar district, as a geographical unit in the Kurdistan Region, has seen significant progress in the field of transportation in recent years, which has caused it to have its share of traffic accidents. The main goal of this study is to identify the characteristics of road networks in Pishdar district as well as a geographical analysis of traffic accidents and determine the level of solving these problems that are observed in the district in a scientific way. The research plan is divided into three main parts, each of which consists of two main sections: Part 1. This part describes the characteristics of transport networks and consists of two main sections. The first section includes the classification of road networks, and the second section includes the distribution of road networks at the level of administrative units in the study area. Part 2. This part is dedicated to the role of geographical principles in the time and place of traffic accidents in Pishdar district. The first is about the difference in time according to (month and year), and the second is the difference in location according to (city and outside the city). Part 3. This part is dedicated to how the most significant natural factors, which also include the most significant human factors, affect traffic accidents.
