Consolation in the Qur’an

Amin Hussein Amin Ahmad, Jihad Qadir Ali

There are certain circumstances and conditions that both the individual and society pass, wherein they need something that shares the burden with them or alleviates their sorrow and distress. In addition to giving steadiness to the heart, strengthening emotional composure, encouraging determination, and offering empathy and consolation. From this premise our study emerges, titled “Consolation in the Qur’an: A Semantic Study.” It addresses the concept of consolation, as it is one of the significant themes in human experience and has been recognized since early times. Noting that humans as living beings are subject to change by the events unfolding around them as they are evolving. Consolation is a recognized concept in Islam, so long as it remains within the bounds of Islamic law. The Noble Qur’an was revealed by Allah, and the Messengers (peace be upon them) were sent with a comprehensive message that attends to both the external conduct and the internal emotional state. This divine message directs the believer toward fulfillment of their purpose on earth. Numerous verses in the Qur’an articulate meanings related to consolation and support. Upon examining the Qur’anic scholarly interpretations, we find that the interpreters employed a variety of expressions to convey the semantic field of consolation, including terms such as solace, compassion, and condolence. The study is divided into three areas of focus: the first explores the concept of consolation, its meanings, and its lexical equivalents; the second examines the recipients of consolation in the Qur’an; and the third addresses the psychological and spiritual impact of consolatory verses in the context of confronting tribulations. The study includes an introduction, a conclusion, and a comprehensive list of primary and secondary sources.

Ellipsis and Multiple Meanings

Jihad Qadr Ali

Ellipsis is a linguistic phenomenon found in all languages, yet it is more evident and frequent in some, such as Arabic, due to its speakers’ inclination toward brevity and conciseness in speech. This is because ellipsis represents a means of condensing expression, reducing heaviness in structure, and enhancing textual cohesion. It also reflects, as Ibn Jinni (d. 392 AH) stated in Al-Khasa'is (الخصائص), the boldness of the Arabic language and its reliance on the intellect and perceptiveness of the listener in grasping the intended meaning with minimal wording. Its benefit, however, is not limited to brevity and conciseness. Rather, it is also one of the linguistic devices employed to convey meaning in a fresh manner, just as is the case with amplification, specification, and restriction. It is therefore an indispensable tool for the speaker in formulating and communicating meanings in an eloquent style that corresponds to the demands of context. Ellipsis has also other benefits that are outlined in this study. The research is divided into two sections preceded by an introduction. The first section defines ellipsis linguistically and technically, mentions its conditions and value, and presents its types and related terminology. The second section offers selected examples from various Qur’anic surahs, with reference to their relevant contexts. These are followed by a concise conclusion summarizing the findings that this brief study has sought to achieve. Our approach in presenting this material is analytical, applied to selected examples from the Qur’an.

Associating some words with each other in the Quranic expression

Hashm Mohammed Mustafa

An eloquent speaker has conspicuous competence for transferring the intended meaning to the listener and influencing him through the manipulation of the most well-formed expression and the best well-organized structures. The higher the status the speakers possesses in rhetoric the better he conveys the message and the more effectively influences the listener. The beholder of the Holy Koran considers how through its greatest arrangement the meanings are conveyed to the listener through a good style that does amount to the level of miracle and challenge. Among the different styles of meaning conveyance in Koranic structure was the style of association. This research is an attempt to declare and explain any two utterances (which are closely connected) repeated several times, and certainly such a repetition and insistence on the accuracy of the meaning, must give a fruitful result in the heart of the one who scrutinizes the Holy Koran. The matter of association of words in Koranic style and the relationship with the connection of the facts that these words express and nominate. Let’s see how association is an absolute reflection of the close connection of the nominated and described matters with the words. As such, the holy Koran is an absolute description of the reality of matters. We will, through this research, try to explain some of the Koranic examples that confirm such facts. Not for the sake of counting, but in order to approve this Koranic fact. The number of the words is six which are sorted alphabetically.
