Social Impacts of Mobile Addiction Among Youth

Mobile phones are important for communication and social interactions and are crucial to people's lives. It is for protecting social relationships and exchanging information among people. This study aims to explain the social consequences of mobile addiction among youth in the Kurdistan Region and identify the positive and negative effects. A combination of symbolic interaction theory and social capital theory is applied. In March of 2024, the data were collected from 534 random youth in the governorates of Erbil, Slemani, Duhok, and Halabja through a questionnaire on Google Forms. The results showed that mobile addiction has psychological, health, social, and educational impacts. It has changed all the types of social interactions between individuals and social capital. The most important consequences are that mobile devices are a way of sharing memories and communications with others, are a factor in building and continuing communication with others, and are a significant device for learning and getting information. In contrast, mobiles have negative effects, which are causing waste of time, increased fatigue, failure to complete tasks, anxiety, and not feeling a sense of social security. Moreover, this device caused eye problems, sleep disorders, and a lack of physical activity. Furthermore, the device limits the brain’s ability to store information, and it leads to excessive and unnecessary distractions. In addition, it has caused weakness and tension at the level of the primary and vertical relations. This has led to a contradictory situation in the youths’ social relationships.

Analyzing the impacts of the youth migration abroad (empirical study for a sample of young people who have migrated abroad)

Migration is a social phenomenon that has existed since ancient times, but in different ways and rates according to the economic and social conditions and geographical location of their place Therefore, the aim of this research is to learn more about the phenomenon of youth migration abroad, as well as identify the reasons and incentives that cause migration, what consequences and social and economic impact on society, the research is implemented on a sample of )162( people who had migrated abroad, and the survey form was used as the main tool to collect information about this study through the Google Form They are the main reasons for young people to migrate abroad, such as the desire to find work, as well as to improve their financial situation and secure the future of themselves and their families. They also have the opportunity to develop their personality and culture by using the modern educational facilities available in the country they are migrating to. In addition, migration has a significant impact on society, for example, reducing scientific skills in society, which reduces the possibility of development of society, as well as reducing the factors of productivity in society and lower productivity levels.

Youth and their participation in the political process

Youth people are the most important basis for the development of social and political systems and heritage change in different societies, so that their influence and dominance over various areas of life appears strongly, especially with regard to lifestyle, thinking, behavior and their point of view in the way of managing the political system. young people plays a powerful role in their Participation in the Political process, such as participation and representation in the electoral process, Pressure on the political system to achieve their demands, who were always been on the forefront of political, cultural and social changes and They were part of the process of changing and rebuilding political systems , when their demands are not met and they do not feel their presence in the political sphere, they do not allow political stability and continuity, so their presence and role appear strongly in society. this research is quantitative research, and the aim of the research is to display the active participation of young people in the political process. The research community is represented by universities and institutes in Erbil, sample research study from university and institute students through data collected from a data collection questionnaire. As a result of this research, we have found that 17.4 % members in student unions and youth organizations. However, 82.6% were not members of any organization, and only 29.4% of the participants were members of political parties. With regard to their active participation in the political process, it is interesting to note that 60.7% of the respondents do not have information about single-constituency and multiple-constituency system for the elections in the Kurdistan Region.
